Lovely hotel, picturesque grounds.
Clean room but some need some serious updating. Ours was very worn out and the bathroom wasn't very pleasant. But some rooms have been done out very well recently so must be working their way round.
Staff friendly and helpful.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Maxime D.Brussels, Belgium464211 Nov 2015
Old British style hotel. The staff is very friendly and available. The room is clean and "OK", except for the old, faded decoration. It should be a bit refreshed... The bar is really great to drink and relax after a long day. The food in the restaurant is the weak point, but the service is still great.

General- Dunston hall looks stunning from the outside, but a little disappointing inside.
We had a random maze like walk to find out hotel room, down some stairs, along a corridor and then up a lift and some more corridor!
Room- The room itself was poor, as in a previous review, no aircon and our room was equally hot and we visited in November! how they manage this i dont know considering the rest of the hotel is so cold.
Bathroom- Poor level of finish in the bath room, while it has a bath and shower, was not by any means special.
Dinning- Our dinning experience was poor. Our waitress gave us bread, but no butter, when our food finally came it was poor. Took and age to get a desert menu. We ordered desert and coffee, of course the coffee came first! Then to add insult to injury, and automatic 10% was added. While i'm aware this is common practice, normally the service would have been good!
Gym- The gym had a range of weights machines and CV but very little room. No room to stretch etc...
Overall- Stunning looking building, but nothing to write home about!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kevin J.Henley-on-Thames, United Kingdom53863519 Jul 2011First to Review
Old, tired, faded and has a carvery. Yes. You read that right. It's the twenty first century and this four-star hotel has a carvery. As you'd expect, the carvery has coach loads of coffin dodgers too. Cosmic.
Given a few quid, the building could be really nice. Given a few open windows it might even lose the musty smell too.
I stayed in the new wing the one without wi-fi, a toilet that is essentially in the bed-room and an old-school CRT telly. (The last time I saw one of those it was in a skip)
By virtue of the fact that you're trapped out in the boondocks, you get room-service, an identical menu (and prices) in one of the bars, the aforementioned carvery or the posh restaurant. Maybe tomorrow night I'll try that.
As someone else has mentioned, the place is a maze of corridors so you'll need to be fit to get around.
There is a golf course here which means that there are also a lot of pot-bellied middle aged Alan Partridge types wearing yellow slacks and pink tops. Other than that, there are a load of trapped business sorts like me.
Staff are friendly enough.
I haven't tried the pool. I can only guess who or what would be using it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (cocoba…)Chelmsford, United Kingdom4241818 Jul 2010
Excellent hotel, old fashioned ways and standards. Brilliant friendly staff. Clean and comfy rooms. Good breakfast (help yourself) so has to be good!. Sorry to leave.

Standard rooms lack any air conditioning, sleep was difficult in a hot airless room. We left the small window and curtains open all night and by morning the room temperature was down to 26 deg!!
The guest information book found in the room gave no indication as to breakfast times or which resturant!
We attended a wedding function with 250 guests in a large room. The brides parents had been told the airconditioning in the venue had been turned off 'due to a leak'.A guest asked a waitress if the room could be cooled and was told 'if you think it is bad you should try working here!!!'
Break fast, buffet running out, messy food area fresh fruit still frozen long wait for coffee.
Final insult, £2.50 added to my bill because I paid by credit card, Dunston Hall.......never again!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (budema…)Halstead, United Kingdom0311 Mar 2010
