This is without a doubt the best place in Lymington to eat, it also happens to be my mothers favorite restaurant. The food is innovitive, and very well cooked and presented. The service is excellent. There is a small waiting area next to the bar where you can enjoy a drink before your meal. It is rather expensive but tends to be faultless. Great place for that special meal.

The restaurant is situated at the bottom of the town not far from the cobbled street leading to the quay. I have dined here three times and have found that the food is of exceptional quality. I particularly recommend their calves liver which knocked spots off the Chewton Glen's (a 5 star hotel nearby) version of the dish. The service was very good here. My one complaint was the complete lack of ambience. Suggest it would suit a table of a few friends rather than a couple, unless you don't mind everyone listening in! It is nicely decorated and has a small bar/seating area when you enter where you can sit and read the menu.

OK OK, I'd avoided recommending Egans because it is difficult enough to get a table without all of you lot wanting to go there. But, now that 2 others have, I'll just give in. It is a great dining experience. The food is absolutely top notch. It is not inexpensive - nowhere in The Forest is - but it is head and shoulders above most of the competition. It's a great place to celebrate a special occasion. You need to be prepared to wait for your food - it is cooked to order - fast food it is not. Great food it is. The waiting staff are very friendly but not the fastest - just be prepared for that - the food will be worth the wait! They have a good wine list too (I'm assured by someone in the trade). Go on, push the boat out and enjoy great food at Egans.

Excellent starters, beautifully presented. Main courses also good, maybe a little heavy with the gravy. Pleasant and attentive staff. Well recommended for good, rather old fashioned food (not that there is anything wrong with that).
