Really great sourdough pizza! (by Sodo)
I visited this pub a few times when I first moved to the area. It was fine. A nice local with comfortable ambience and traditional Italian food. Nothing really out of the ordinary and I never really thought to return. A typical 3-star affair if I ever saw one.
On a surprisingly sunny Sunday my husband recommended that our group of 4 head here for the pizzas. I was doubtful (as I remembered the very heavy/garlicky former fare) but hungry, so I agreed. I just figured he had had pizza off the menu at some point.
BUT NO! In fact, George & Vulture made a very sound decision and now their entire menu is produced and carried out by the dudes at Sodo. A fine looking menu of oven-fired sourdough crust pizzas floated by me and soon enough (very quick actually) our foursome was enjoying the Dirty Boy (lots of meat!), the Cured Meats (obvious) and the Goats Cheese pizza with rocket. All were absolutely delicious, light/thin crust and went great with the beers outside at the picnic tables.
They also have a short list of starters (olives, burratina, salad) that I will try next time, along with the desserts. And the wine. And more pizza, please. More of that pizza! They even have you gluten-freerers covered, they do a pizza on broad bean baked crust. Now, there you have it!
If you really get hooked they have a Monday special (I think 2 for 1) for keyholders. Keys cost just £5. I don't know the details but if you are a Monday regular that 5 quid investment would surely be worth it.
Ales, beers, etc all standard. Service is always just fine. Gets busy with the after work crowd (especially in nice weather as their side walk real estate is plentiful and side street unbusy) -- but the weekends are actually quite pleasant and full of neighborhood folks and revelers alike. It's a cozy pub in the winter as well. I look forward to being more of a regular now that I know the food is up to snuff.

I popped into here last night for the takeaway Lorena pizza. It was busy but I still got a space at the bar. For £8, the pizza is a steal. I'm a self-professed pizza snob and I loved the thin crust, tomato sauce and lovely butternut squash chunks. Even my carnivore husband liked the pizza which says a lot! I'm surprised it was so good actually as I ate at the Sodo location in Walthamstow and was nonplussed. Overall not the best pizza I've ever had- Yard Sale and Joe's in Clapham is still superior- but definitely a solid pub pizza.

Very nice roast spot. Friendly staff, simple menu, large interior Space and tables outside all helping you spend a good time there. Menu consists of a few roast options beef pork chicken veal or the whole set less chicken, served with the usuals veg and pudding in sauce. Delish. Did not try any sides or starters but I saw a bake Camembert that I want to try next time. Multitude of beers on tap and casks and among them Hoegarden perfect for a sunny Sunday drinking day. Great spot, great vibe, nothing to through here. Go and try you should not be disappointed at all.

As the three stars indicate, the George & Vulture is 'A-OK'. It's a pub that feels spacious, clean, and relaxed - good for times when you find yourself around Hoxton Square and fancy a casual drink with friends. But it's not really a pub I'd be eager to visit over and over again.
I visited on a Sunday evening when I knew that Sodo pizzas would be on the menu. The beer selection was all right, but not hugely exciting - three Fuller's beers and the standard lagers. The pizzas were also not up to par with the actual Sodo restaurant in Clapton (so PLEASE don't judge the quality of Sodo based on what you get here!). The crust was too thin and it just didn't seem to be baked (cooked?) as well.
Conclusion: Not the worst pub if you'd like to take a seat and have a pint, but it could do with better beer and making sourdough pizzas closer to Sodo standards.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nadia L.London, United Kingdom443915015 May 2016
Came here for the Bacchus Sunday roasts that they do from 12:30-5 after reading some great reviews about it. The Sunday roast was INDEED quite amazing -- the only thing lacking was the gravy in my yorkshire pudding (but I guess I could have asked for that if I really wanted it -- so bad on my part). It was a lovely sunny day for once in London, so we sat outside. Great service and friendly staff. We asked why it was called the tallest pub in London and the waitress went to go find out herself. Laid back atmosphere and some good beers on tap. Oh and order the spicy bloody mary. The only thing that would have been the cherry on top would be a stick of celery in it :) Great atmosphere though and would come back.

Came in to grab some good food near a friends house. Looks like a spacious and typical british pub, but they serve Italian food.
I've only had the DEEElicious calzone. And it was big too. Shared with said friend and still was satisfied. I likes to eat, so that's saying something. I don't remember what I drank. I think I just got a cider so not sure about our bartenders skillz.
Bartender was super friendly despite being tired. I forgot why he was tired. But he said he was. But still smiled and chatted. It was a Friday evening, fairly quiet.
Whatevs, I'm a fan. I want to go back and try some other menu items.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Caroline L.Los Angeles, United States10624761013 Apr 2016
The bar itself is really nice but the service is so poor I would not recommend it.
I organize my leaving drinks there specially because we already came with my friends a month earlier and they allowed my friend with her baby and dog.
This time though, it seemed to be a problem to have her standing outside with the baby in the pram and they not kindly asked us to leave (yes all of us) otherwise they would call the police.
We tried to explain she was just staying an hour (she had to get the baby to bed so was just staying literally for one drink), that we would stay outside in the rain but they wouldn't hear us. The other customers tried to come to the rescue saying no one cared about a baby being there but same they wouldn't hear them.
My friend said last time the same waiter was really arsy as well and would ignore them with the pizza saying they didn't pay for it. When he realized A/it was their pizza B/they paid he just dropped it on the table with a sigh and not even an apology.
I've never seen a pub management so bad with their customers.
We changed for the Eagle on City Road and they accepted everyone: the baby, the dog, my friend who looks like he's not paying for his food.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Chris F.London, United Kingdom76253114949 Apr 2009First to Review
Saw this pub soon after moving to the area. Had a pool tablelooked a bit rough to be honestin keeping with the street it's on. So I dismissed it early on and never gave it a second look.
Which is a shame as it has been transformed. No more pool, just a comfortable boozer serving a wide variety of drinks (including 3 ales when I was there) in a relaxed atmosphere. They have events such as quizzes and acoustic nights. These days it's well worth a visit.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Amanda W.London, United Kingdom2826130 Oct 2016
My local pub in the heart of Hoxton. Always buzzing and has a great atmosphere. Have yet to try their Sunday roast which is supposed to be lovely. Their pizzas look gorgeous as well! Staff is friendly and I would recommend this place to anyone in the area, definitely one of the better pubs around here.

Yes i have reviewed this pub before. but im back to say tonight was a very special night.customers brought in inflatable palm trees, and dressed as heroes and legends,I met batman spiderman, Tina Turner,a guy dressed as a car think it was a renualt.Marelynn was awesome,oh yes the guy dressed as a plane, and many more like , there was so many who put a lot of time and effort into what was a great great night. This was a ladies birthday party, and she must be a very special lady, to have such good friends who did her proud,I spoke as I said to Spiderman and hes keen to have more of these nights , so if I hear its happening I will let you all know.Only a venue like the George and Vulture can spring these surprises, but qypers You will know as soon as I do.Trust me this was so different, photos soon
