I was very pleased to see actual "inside" photos of this candy shop as the owner is always telling everyone to please not take them! Maybe he softened up that day! :)
Anyway, when we visit Germany, we live in Karlsruhe with long time friends ( a 40 minute drive from The Zuckerladen) ... and it is always one of the very first stops we make after we arrive in Deutschland.
The owner is a charming and eccentric soul... The Willy Wonka of Heidelberg, and the candy he has selected for his customers is out of this world - from the standard German Gummi bears, to extremely amazingly fine chocolate, and everything in-between.
Its location is also delightfully charming- situated in a nice cozy little part of town.
A MUST when you visit Heidelberg... for the chocolate, and everything else that comes along with it.
Closed Sunday and Monday.

My favorite candy store in the whole world! Unique, with full service pick-n-mix, AKA bulk candy, candy creature creations, imported candies, even erotic chocolates, all housed in a tiny shop attended by mom and pop owners and their lovely daughter.
Pretty much exactly the opposite of everything Dylan's, It'Sugar, Sugar Factory, etc. -- those stale chains and flagships.
Such great warmth and charm. A Heidelberg highlight, and a must see when visiting!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Adrena M.Santa Clara, United States1718425 Jun 2015
Great experience if in the area as a tourist!
The owner greets you personally when you walk in the door. You will be helped when selecting the very unique candy and his selection is special. But more importantly he makes you feel like you are his number one customer.
If you have a chance to stop in you should you will not regret it!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Colin R.Noblesville, United States201129 Jun 2015
Not the best place to go if you're in a rush because the owners take their time with each customer to make it a unique and pleasurable experience. They don't allow people to take photographs while in the store. That's not because they have something to hide but I think because a picture could not even begin to communicate the ambiance of this place. My family took 11 days to travel through Europe and Heidelberger Zuckerladen was one of the best experiences of our entire trip.

What an amazing candy store this is! Its really so much more than that, its an experience! If you're looking to run into a store and run back out with candies, this isn't the place for you. There is almost always a line (I've never been inside without a line) and it is always a good time, worth the wait. Herr Brecht will insist you play a game with him before you leave the store - no one gets out without playing a game! Its great fun, even if you don't speak German. Oh, and the candies are out of this world! So many to choose from and so fresh and delicious!! Candies from all over - US, UK, Germany, other European countries, Asia
