This pub is where I watched Wales beat Ireland to win the 2005 Grand Slam so it holds a very dear place in my heart. It is also the last stop on a pub crawl I undertook one Valentine's day when I'd been dumped. All I recall is hugging the toilet on that instance.
But the day that Wales won the Grand Slam was a truly great day. I'd just been to a fancy meal at Midsummer House with the boyfriend's family before excusing myself and sprinting to the nearest acceptable pub. The Fountain was packed to the rafters with people wearing green and red. It was a brilliant atmosphere - the kind where strangers hugged eachother for no other reason than they were wearing the same colour shirt.
For that day I will always have a soft spot for The Fountain. I saw a couple of this year's 6 nations matches here and it was a bit dull.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (corvic…)Cambridge, United Kingdom08010 Sept 2008
I have mixed feelings about this pub. It is a nice place to go to after midnight because it is open until 4am and the music is fairly good. Also you don't have to pay to get in.
But also they have a minimum charge if you want to pay per card (fair enough, lots of places have that). But it's 10 pounds! So I had to buy several drinks to come to that amount only to be told that their machine was broken. They still expected me to pay for the drinks I only ordered because of the minimum charge.
Also the staff is only to be described as grumpy.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (Lights…)Cambridge, United Kingdom0155 Dec 2007
With its great location this is always a place that I either pop into as I know I will always see people I know or a place that I go at the end of the night to have a good dance before I have to try to get a taxi home!
The Fountain is not a very big pub but it doesn't need to be as it has a huge atmosphere there are not many pubs where so many people get up and dance like you are in a club but this is one of them. Towards the back of the pub if you are early enough you can grab the comfy brown sofas great if you are in it for the long haul. The Fountain also feels like a traditional pub not part of the many chains popping up in Cambridge so next time you walk by make sure you pob in as I am in no doubt that you will feel very welcomedHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (FunkyF…)Cambridge, United Kingdom2115221 Sept 2008
Love this place. It has a really happy feeling about it. Might be that everyone is really drunk ;-) I have only been in the Fountain after midnight. It is bouncer run with a one in one out policy. Its also gets rather packed and you do begin to feel like a sardine in a tin. All in all i would try it as you will love it.

This is one of my favourite pubs from the outside, with its long narrow front it reminds me of being in Amsterdam. The black and white floor tiles inside also add to this feel. Seating consits of small tables and chairs to the rear and long narrow benches for bigger groups at the entrance. Good selection of draughts, wine and rums. They have a late licence and host new music nights with a DJ on Friday and Saturday nights which are friendly and relaxed. Reasonably priced.

Can be a bit hit and miss as sometimes it is really busy and at others empty! i don't know why!
They have a happy hour and a DJ at weekends. There is a quiter seating area towards the back with room for dancing in the main bar area.
It is always quiet early on in the evening and never seems to get busy until after 11am. They are open quite late - thinks its about 2am. Worth a visit on a weekend night out. Can also be included in a good Regent Street pub crawl - start at Catholic church and work your way down into town centre!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (Rosenq…)Cambridge, United Kingdom011 Feb 2013
Went to the Fountain for the first time last night. Had no change (as usual) and when I wanted to pay for the drinks I was told it would be a 70p surcharge for using the card.
Come on it was a DEBIT card.
70p surcharge is robbery and it makes me not want to come back. It's just like a charge for access to wireless the only thing that does is creates an angry customer and makes sure he/she doesn't come back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (tikk…)Cambridge, United Kingdom0137 Jun 2009
A good place to watch sport on weekend afternoons, with friendly staff and prompt food service. Most other reviews have focused on the bar's late-night offerings: the cold light of day shows up the shabbiness of the decor in places, but the recent renovations to the Ladies (can't speak for the Gents) have made this a much nicer place. Nice, no-attitude bar that does a lot of different things right.

99.99% of pubs will gladly top your pint up if you ask. Not this place. I had it explained to me that legally they don't have to serve a full pint. After pointing out that Trading Standards and CAMRA might disagree, I was given my money back and (rudely) refused service. If you're a real ale drinker and you want to get what you pay for you should not go anywhere near this place.
