You have to look past the sticky floor. Yes, even the carpet was sticky. My first suggestion for this place would be to get rid of the carpet and buy a mop and some good detergent and teach someone how to use it.

After that, the barbecue was not bad for Iowa. The beef seemed to be brisket, but was not sliced. It was kind of pulled or chopped or both. It was tender, done, with moderate smoke and a good beefy flavor. The salt was about right and it was moist.

The pork was about the same as the beef. It had modest smoke and decent flavor. It was just moist enough and was a little above average for the pulled pork style.

The ribs were smoky, tender and not dried out, but they were not really juicy either. There were a little hammey. Salt was good. These particular ribs may not have been quite fresh, although it was a Saturday night. I would guess they were at least one day old.

The sausage was really very good and quite a surprise. It had some sage and nice heat. The texture was real Texas, telling me that it is smoked from raw and not commercial. Although Ms T did not like the sausage, I did.

For the sides, the potato salad was made with underdone red potatoes. Correct potatoes, wrong cooking time. It had toom uch yellow mustard and too much onion. the slaw was bad; over dressed with institutional grade "miracle whip".

So in summary, while the sides are weak, the barbecue here is acceptable, not stellar, but this is not exactly the center of the barbecue universe. They just need to work on housekeeping.

Every time I come here I try something different and I'm never disappointed. The creative sides and maker's mark pecan pie are more than worth a try. I have a special place in my stomache for the Mac n cheese balls and the pickle chips.

Anyone rolling through Sioux city should definitely give this BBQ joint a try.

This used to be a family owned food cart switching from downtown & Morningside areas, but just a week ago they relocated to a permanent address / building at 2520 Transit Ave in the Transit Plaza across from Fareway.

Absolutely delicious & extremely filling! The $4.99 brisket sandwich has the most lean & tender beef I've ever seen served at a bbq establishment. Several thick slices are neatly layered inside a large sesame seed bun. Three of the people in my group ordered the brisket & not a scrap was left on their plate.
I tried the pulled pork for $3.99 & it was just as lean & tender as the brisket. I wasn't expecting a large pile of shredded pork spilling out of its bun but that's exactly what I got & it was too much for me to handle. Should have gone with the junior size for a dollar less which is only available on the brisket & pulled pork sandwiches.

They have a great selection of sides for $1.99 each & I highly recommend the greaseless sweet potato fries or steak fries. Each are crispy on the outside & soft inside; cooked to perfection actually. Seriously, not a drop of grease could be seen nor tasted whatsoever! The coleslaw was okay only because there was just too much dressing for my liking.

The sandwiches are not marinated in bbq sauce but rather smoked. Customers get to choose their own sauce(s) from spicy, original, honey & chipotle. Spicy is extremely spicy with almost a horse radish kick to it. The honey & original are good & the chipotle is different because of its bitter taste.

I will definitely return the next time I'm back from Portland as long as they're still in business.

Apparently, the best BBQ in Siouxland doesn't mean much around here.

While the beer selection was formidable and exceeded expectations, the rest of menu failed to excite. While we watched our orders cool in the kitchen window as the waitress wandered about, I set about tasting the various BBQ sauces set on the table. Not bad, but nothing to write home about either.

When our waitress finally realized our order was up, the meal was set upon the table and we started tucked in. Unfortunately, this BBQ tasted like it'd been cooked in an oven, not on a grill. We searched for the smoke, but all we got was dry pork desperate for some sauce to help make the sandwich palatable.

Oh, and the honey-butter for the cornbread...that's margerine. Sad days. I suppose I could have looked over the bad service and over-rated food, but when my feet literally stuck to the floor, it was too much. Sorry House of Q, in my book, you're a no-go.

Pretty delicious barbecue. It can be a little spending, but the portions are large. I would recommend trying the Queritto (A barbecue burrito) and the sweet potato fries are a must!

I'm in town visiting my Mom and we're at House of Q at her recommendation.

First impression: Very modest restaurant with very sticky carpet. Who has carpet in a restaurant?! I am trying really hard to compartmentalize so I don't think about the grossness of it. 2 stars for yuck.

So far the food coming out looks pretty good. The gal calls out your order so everyone knows what you ordered. It's cool because we're all here for the same thing: fattening food. 3 stars for down-homeness.

3 of us ordered pulled pork sandwiches with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. Everyone liked the pork and we all loved the fries. Sweet potato fries can sometimes be un-crisp, but these were crispy and delicious. My all-time faves. The Coleslaw got a lukewarm response.

I ordered the small rack which was 5 ribs...more than enough for me. As a previous reviewer mentioned, the ribs are rubbed and smoked. I typically prefer saucy ribs but these were really delicious. They provide a variety of sauces you can add if you want the mess. I also ordered mac n cheese balls which got an overall thumbs down. 5 stars for the meat and fries.

Overall, we rated this a 4 star experience. If you can get past the extreme modesty of the restaurant and focus just on the food you'll find it to be a pretty good experience. Bon Apetite!

Another place recommended by locals during our trip to Sioux City from California. Stuffed-jalapenos are awesome. Went on Tuesday for all you can eat ribs and we got our fill. Ribs were good. The variety of BBQ sauces available to put on them is vast. Cole slaw was decent, but nothing spectacular. The best thing this place has is the AWESOME beer selection. Lots of bottled micro-brews from across the nation. The best beer I tried (and we tried a few too many) was a root beer infused beer. WAY TOO GOOD.................owner is a very cool guy who has a solid BBQ joint.

Absolutely boring bbq!! I would say this place is just average at best! I consider myself a advocate of quality bbq, and this is not it. Ribs were ok, brisket dry and even the beans were not that good...probably won't come back!!

I haven't been frequenting Yelp lately, but the food at the House of Q inspired me to come back to do some "evangelizing" for this place! Sioux City has lacked a top-notch BBQ establishment since the demise of Gregory's a few years back. For everyone who remembers Gregory's as the end-all, be-all of BBQ in Sioux City the Q puts Gregory's to shame. The secrets in the smoke, folks. You just can't fake that smokey flavor. I had the ribs and I was delighted to see them presented in all of their naked glory with the sauce almost acting as an afterthought. Don't get me wrong, the choice of sauces is good, I'm just one of those guys that prefers a dry rub with sauce as an option. The Chipotle sauce had the perfect bite without sending the burn into overdrive. It truly enhanced the flavor of the meat rather than taking over like so many sauces tend to do. I took a chance on the fried macaroni balls and was glad I did! Perfect complement to the ribs.

The service is great, too! When we walked in I was a little worried about the line. The way it works is you stand in line and place your order at a window and a server brings it out too you. This is actually an incredibly efficient system and also pays homage to the Q's roots as a walk up food truck. People don't seem to mind standing in line either. We struck up several conversations in line and were amazed at how fast we actually got up to the window in relationship to how long the line seemed. Once they took the order our food was delivered out in less than ten minutes even though the house was packed.

Don't even think twice...drop your dinner plans this evening and go straight to the Q!
