Friendly, local student dive. Reminds me a lot of local neighborhood bars in Buffalo in the early 1980's. Very friendly. Efficient staff. Very much for students. Beer is delicious and cold. Music does not do it for a Boomer. Large patio. Not a sports bar, only 1 TV. Not a place to bring a date, but a place to relax amongst young people. Street parking only. No disabled facilities.

Great place to hangout! Their poutine is a must try. Loved the ambience. Must visit if you are in Hamilton.

Friendly but inefficient staff - good beer reco, but the Tuesday burger special woefully missed the mark - advertised as homemade, but the patty tasted pre-fabricated (and certainly NOT cooked to medium, as had been offered by way of doneness), and the fries were unforgivably limp. This is a tiny neighbourhood pub: there's no excuse for limp fries!
Sadly, the search for a local
watering hole continues ...Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Don T.Willmott, Milton, Canada019 Dec 2018
Tl;dr: Good place for the price, better for -some- folks more than others.
Perfectly fine place with good food and drinks but the wait staff seem to have no problem accommodating bigots and racists. Had to sit near a conversation from another customer mutter certain racist profanities before getting a laugh out of the bartender. It's fine if customers are unsavory, but wait staff should either not react to such comments, or tell the regulars to keep those conversations to themselves or leave. But apart from that, in respect to quality, you're getting a good meal for the value. For the gluten intolerant, they offer a cider on tap!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Cooper W.Dundas, Canada4565 Oct 2011First to Review
You haven't eaten pub food until you've been to the West End Pub & Grill. And when I say "pub food" I'm not talking about typical English fare -- you won't find meat pies, coddles, or bangers & mash. What you will find is some of the best burgers and southern BBQ style sandwiches you'll ever taste anywhere.
It's been a long-time coming, but it's been well worth the wait. A year ago the food was sub-par at best -- the kitchen being run by myriad of transient cooks and part-time university students. Now the kitchen is run by the skilled chef, Sean Bryan, who knows what flavor is and isn't afraid to experiment.
Sean's burgers are fresh made. Nothing frozen here, and nothing boring. I mean, if you want just a basic cheeseburger, you'll get the best damn cheeseburger you ever had, but if you want to experiment with something creative and jam-packed with flavor, just order one of Sean's hamburger creations; you'll feel like you've been transported to New Orleans with a spicy slug to the taste buds, or sent to a backyard BBQ somewhere along the Mississippi with a bucketful of smokey tangy goodness. You'll be drooling for more, repeatedly.
From wicked hot suicide chicken wings to multinational Mexican spring rolls, from smokey pulled pork sandwiches to fresh-cut french fries, West End Pub & Grill is a must-experience destination. It's off the beaten path to be sure, but well worth the effort to get there.
If you're craving top-shelf food at a reasonable price -- go straight to the West End.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Topgun J.Hamilton, Canada010411 Sept 2015

This place is a hit or miss. Sometimes the food is really good, others it's just okay. The draught beer is usually not so good though, which is really disappointing. The last few times I've been, the beer has been absolutely flat. Yesterday, my boyfriend and his friends ordered a pitcher and couldn't even finish it, but still paid. Come on, you're a bar, you might want to look into that issue.
