Really, really excellent food -- and totally a welcome and necessary addition to this neighborhood. The quality of the ingredients is so high -- nothing frozen, overly processed or canned. There's a lot of care and effort put into each component of the plate, so it feels (and tastes!) like fine Mediterranean dining but at a super-affordable price point. Loved the cauliflower and carrots (both so refreshing on this hot SF day), loved the hummus (SO thick, creamy, and real-tasting), and loveloveloved the chicken (meaty, rich, indulgent). If you're looking for a fast, affordable, HEALTHY option that doesn't compromise on flavor, this is 100% the way to go. You won't be disappointed. It also helps that the owners are tremendously thoughtful and kind. (They took pity on a poor New Yorker in search of a healthy meal on a Sunday and opened their doors late.) Huge thanks to you, and best of luck with the new location! It's deeply important to support local and build your neighborhood karma, which you can and will absolutely do here. PS -- Next location: New York City?!
Was tasty, but wasn't as good as my experience at their first location. Probably due to my choice of kofta instead of falafel this time, since the pita was still amazing and the toppings were fine. On one hand, it's disappointing that a premium protein option is sub-par. On the other hand, getting the falafel next time will solve that issue. Kofta Pita Sandwich: I've had much better kofta kebabs elsewhere. These didn't look freshly grilled at all and were falling apart, lacking the firmness that usually comes with a fresh sear by fire. A decent sized chunk fell on the prep table when the guy was filling my pita and he just tossed it out, which was a little annoying since they only give you 3 disks to begin with. I got "everything" which was a smear of hummus then rotating layers of a few salads/pickles and tahini sauce. I did appreciate the layering so you get even distribution. And, of course, the freshly baked pita was the real star here. Can't beat it! Prickly Pear Lemonade: So tasty. I love pickly pear and I love frozen slushy drinks, so the combo was heaven for me. I appreciated that the lemonade wasn't too sour.
This is another location of the very popular place on Kearny Street. It is their soft opening this week (6/12/17) and everything is 1/2 price. The tip here is that you can get 2 proteins and have them give you half of each (if you are feeling indecisive. I do think it is a bit pricy, and since the portions are so large, I wish there was a "snacker" option like a 1/2 a sandwich. This is a bigger location than the Kearny Street location, also has rest rooms in the back. Outdoor seating would be nice, but they do not have any yet.
A little pricey, but still good. I ordered a bowl with falaffel, hummus, carrot salad, cauliflower, and beets. It was healthy, yet filling. With tax and tip, it came out to about $15/person. If you get meat, it's an extra $1.
The falafel and sides are tasty, though not the cheapest lunch downtown. I've tried the kofta bowl as well, but the falafel is definitely superior. If you have the chance to wait for a freshly fried batch, it's well worth it. The mix of the hot, crunchy falafel with the hummus and tahini sauce is a delicious combo. I've tried all the sides, and the cauliflower is probably my favorite, with a flavorful crunch to it. The beets are also pretty tasty and sweet. The bowls definitely have some heft to them, so not necessarily a light meal. I've never tried the pitas, but they look pretty good, and you can see them as they come fresh baked out of the oven. The line moves, so you are in and out relatively quickly, compared to some other popular lunch joints. I am definitely a regular.
Love, love this place! The food: amazing! The staff: super friendly! The box your Falafel comes in: ingenious!
