I first came to know Rich when I hired him to fix closet shelves that had been installed improperly by the previous owner. The work was high quality and the price was fair. That was several years ago and since then I have had numerous occasions to employ his services and was very pleased each time. He has become an adviser on all things home related and has had been entrusted with access to my place for the past three years.
Recently, we hired him to rehang kitchen cabinets and realized that very day that we needed to get a new microwave too. (The old one had been kaput for a month or so.) Rich found one that would suit, picked it up at the store and installed it along with the cabinets, all of this being handled over the phone. The workmanship was superlative and the convenience was worth far more than the modest price he charged for the extra legwork. If (when!) we need repairs, new installations or even advice we will certainly be calling Rich.
I don't know what bee got in Antek's bonnet. He is right that this neighborhood desperately needs a coffee shop or two. One opened near Lockwood & Montrose but was never open and is now closed and I am very sad that this coffee shop is now closed as well. Sigh.
But unless you are obsessed about coffee quality they serve a great cup, and the service I have received was wonderful. Add to that free wi-fi with places to plug-in and this is a great place. The decor is pleasant too: an interesting mix of eclectic styles done without losing either its own identity or a welcoming presence. Coffee shops tend to be very aware of their own hipness but at this place construction guys come in for coffee as well as a nerd like me. To me that is the hallmark of a great place.
I may have spoken too soon. I received a call from the manager, in fact he called twice. He had seen this very interview and was very apologetic, inviting me to drop by to get my gears fixed, which was my goal in the first place. I will post again about that experience but at the moment I am pleased
I won't do business with them again. I dropped my bike off there to get a tune-up as they are very close to me. I waited a bit more than I would have liked but chalked it up to a busy day. I was wrong.
I went back to pick up my bike and waited quite sometime for someone to even acknowledge me. Meanwhile the employee is chatting with another customer, offering suggestions and advice. When I finally did get up to the counter I was treated with less deference than at the grocery store. I was given a total, paid my bill and given my bike. I expected at least some explanation of what had been done, or even a "have a nice day." Nothing.
The kicker was when I then rode home. They had oiled the chain and reset my brake but I specifically told them the gears do not shift properly and they still don't.
If you are not part of "bike scene" expect to be ignored, both in customer service, and in my case, actual service.
